  • Lesson #1, before you plan anything for you and your hunter... check which hunting season it might be! I very nearly made the mistake of organising our wedding during the roar (or rut for you northern hemispherians). To be fair, I did ask him numerous times if April suited, and always got a yes as reply! It was only when I came home and told him I'd actually booked something that the brain neurons starting connecting and he announced he was unavailable in April, as he'd be hunting! Suffice to say, we had a March wedding...
In New Zealand, each region has it's own hunting seasons and regulations, so to check your own region the Fish and Game website has all the info you'll need. If your hunter has a hunting licence (which he must have to shoot game birds), he should have been issued with a booklet with all this info in it. If he's anything like my hunter, he'll have 'misplaced' it...
Also important to note: in NZ a licence is required to shoot game birds. This is different from a FireArms Licence, which is also required but rather is evidence that you are a suitable person to 'bear arms'.
